Punching Thick Sheets on Large Presses - This is an example of 8mm Silo Panel Punching

The illustration shows a unit punching and notching set up used on a large 500 ton press brake fitted with fabricated plattens. Sheets of 5, 6, and 8mm steel - 2500 x 900mm - are punched in two blows of the press. The first blow punches holes on the long side and half of each short edge and the panel is completed by turning the blank round through 180 degrees on a ball table area. The underside of the blow plate is fitted with pneumatic sliding gag plates which are programmed to punch some holes but not others in conjunction with the press cycles.
